April & May Savings Goals and beyond!
You may have noticed that I haven’t been around in awhile. April 2015 was the first month in ages that was blank on this blog (other than my March savings goal round-up.) April, and now May, have been whirlwind months which have left me gasping for air and not always a good way. I’ve spent a lot more of my time on my beauty blog, darlingmagpie.com because it’s a lot easier for me to review a mascara these days, than it is to talk about money in a semi-intelligent way 😉
What did I get up to this April & May?
Work took hold and shook me to my core. I can’t remember the last time I logged so many hours at the office or spent my weekends squinting at a screen. The only good thing to come out of in April was that I received my bonus which has helped with my financial planning, getting me to some goals early.
In May I took it a little easier, celebrated my thirtieth birthday and took a long-weekend trip to Montreal to kick back and eat all the food! But the hours are long and they’re only going to get longer until this job is done.
April Life Goals
Let’s just say that I failed every non-financial goal I aimed for this month. All of them.
April Savings Goals – By the numbers
April – Goal $600/month. Actual: $850
I made it! I finally funded my emergency fund to the ‘reserve amount’ that I was aiming for, awesome! While I’ll still be putting money into here each month, it’ll be less. I’m aiming to divert more to my RRSP and planned spending starting this month.
April – Goal: $300/month. Actual: $300 ($300 in my Tangerine RSP Mutual Fund)
Time to increase contributions to my RRSP!
April – Goal: $100/month. Actual: $100, automatic monthly withdrawal. Joint account with my boyfriend.
Because we just took a vacation mid-May, it looks like our Fall vacation may be more of a winter one, but here’s hoping!
April – Goal: $100/month. Actual: $200
Planned Savings: New glasses, driving lessons,
Savings Goals Round-Up
January Savings Goals: $1100. Actual: $925 or $1025 depending on how you look at it. (-$75-175)
February Savings Goals: $1100. Actual: $1100 ($0)
March Savings Goals: $1100. Actual: $1100 ($0)
April Savings Goals: $1100. Actual: $1450 (+$350)
And then there was none. I said that I was considering either slowing down or halting contributing to my emergency fund all together now that it’s funded, and i think I might. My next goal is to start properly contributing to my RRSP and get myself ready to build a real portfolio. Wish me luck!
