My 2014 Goals Round-up!
(Above, my first and last selfies of 2014)
For those who keep track, here is my OFFICIAL response to my 2014 Goals, Financial, Fun and Otherwise. Last year I only made five goals as a response to the 10 goals I had in 2013 (which was five goals too many), and I think it made all the difference in my achievements. I was able to stop worrying about all these small milestones and focused on the ones that made a huge difference in my life instead.
1. Get debt-free and stay debt-free
This was my biggest goal of 2014 and I’m happy to say that it was the easiest one to achieve. I buckled down, HARD, at the end of 2013 to make sure I could speed up my debt repayment by four months and I made a promise to myself to not waste any of that time that I saved. I saved like a beast between April and August to make up for what I advanced myself from my TFSA. My monthly savings goals helped me increase my savings rate, which propelled me into 2015 with a lot of money in the bank.
2. Contribute 10% of my take-home income to my RRSP
This was a sliiiiight fail (by about $300) but only because of Goal #3. To compensate for this however, I’m tucking in some extra money before the 2014 RRSP contribution deadline for my taxes.
3. Build back up my emergency fund
I achieved this goal in AUGUST and then some. I’m currently buckling down to tuck away $10,000 in this fund by NEXT August, aka the end of my current contract, to make sure I have firm footing as I find my next job.
OVER ACHIEVING SUCCESS
4. Run a 10k
My 2013 goals included a minor fitness goal, which I surpassed, and a major reading goal, which I failed. My 2014 goals included a minor reading goal (so minor I didn’t even log it!), which I surpassed, and a major fitness goal, which I failed! Is it too hard to be bookish and fit at the same time?!
5. Make time for fun
I went to the BAHAMAS, QUEBEC CITY and NEW ORLEANS. I joined an AXE THROWING LEAGUE. I joined a YA BOOKCLUB. I went to FIELD TRIP. I saw Robyn. I embraced SHEET MASKS, I started a second BLOG and I turned into CARMEN SANDIEGO. 2014 was a good year.
How did you do in 2014? What are your goals for next year?
